Engineers Week 2014
An engineer from the ESB visited the school for Engineers Week. Here are some reports written by 5th class. Scroll down for photos.
Engineer’s Week by Emma
An engineer came into our school on Tuesday. His name was Adrian. Adrian taught me a lot about engineering and what they do. Like electricity, water, designing houses and other buildings, computers, 3ds, and wind turbines. Most of the stuff he was talking about I didn’t even know that engineers worked on. He mostly was talking about windmills, but he was also talking about many other engineering jobs.
The windmills are made of steel and the blades are made of fibre glass. There is a ladder inside of the windmill to get to the generator on the top of the windmill. He had lots of slideshows to show us - they were pretty interesting. A few of them were games and in there was a picture of a house or a school and you had to find all the things that are to do with engineering any kind of engineering. It was fun.
My report on Adrian’s visit.
An engineer called Adrian came to our school on Tuesday the 10th of February. He talked about wind turbines and electrical things that engineers make. He showed us a PowerPoint on wind turbines. He told us that they use wind turbines on land and in the sea to power electricity. When the tide goes in and out it turns the turbines which create electricity. The main part of the turbine is made of steel and the blades are made of fibre glass. Adrian showed us a picture and we had to figure out which things engineers would make. Adrian woks for the ESB making the wind turbines. When the wind is not blowing they use a generator to power the turbines. Before he left we asked him loads of questions. He said that they where all very good questions. He left t-shirts and marshmallows. All of 5th class got t-shirts as well as Sean, Shea and Amy.
Engineers Week
On Tuesday an engineer came called Adrian. He told us about wind turbines. “There are loads of different things to do when you are an engineer” said Adrian. He told us to name stuff all around us that has to do with engineers. The main thing Adrian told us about was wind turbines. He told us that you could go inside wind turbines and climb to the top. They have a big building that controls all the wind turbines. They got all the materials from Denmark because Denmark has the biggest wind turbines. Adrian told us that he works for a company called ESB. At the end of the day Adrien gave us t-shirts only Amy, Sean and 5th class got them because there was not enough for everyone. The End By: Davd
