Our activities for each year
Year 6           - We are just starting out on Year 6 - watch this space!

Year 5: The Five Steps we had to take to achieve to meet the criteria for 2013 /2014 school year...
    • Step 1 – Greenwave and Maths: We watched for the signs of spring in our area by looking out for the six common species listed on the www.greenwave.ie web site. We recorded sightings of all the species except one - the swallow. We also recorded temperature and rainfall. Then we used Microsoft Excel to make graphs of the information. We made graphs to show the information for 16 weeks. Then we got the averages for January, February, March and April and we made graphs of that too.
    • Step 2 – Prescribed activities and Maths: we provided evidence that more than one class in the school have been involved in hands-on investigations relating to the Energy and Forces strand of the Science curriculum and hands-on investigations relating to the Materials strand of the Science curriculum including examples and show evidence of how maths was used as part of this science work.
    • Step 3 – Step 3 – DPSM Discover Centre or Science Speaker/Engineer
    • We visited W5 again and had a great time.
    • We also had a visit from an engineer for Engineers Week in February. We learned a lot about his job with the ESB and especially about wind power.
    • The infant classes had a visit from a nurse and a garda and a lady from the HSE who helped us learn all about looking after our teeth with the Mighty Mouths programme
    • Infants and First Class visited the Planetarium in Armagh.
    • Step 4 – Another Science Fair
    • Step 5 – Technology:This is how we provided evidence of how the children used technology
      • We use this website where our science and maths work can be viewed
      • We used IT to record and analyse data - spreadsheets and graphs
      • We submitted our logbook in a digital format - ie. this web site
      • Children from second class up participated in the Irish Computer Society Scratch programme at www.ics.ie/scratch
